KOPTI is a research institute specialized in the field of photonics technology, and has led the photonics industry market and technology through R&D and supporting small and medium scale enterprises. This institute has been well established with state-of-art laboratories and has a tradition of excellence in fundamental, strategic and applied work.

KOPTI creates high value-added, environment friendly, highly efficient new technology related to photonic fields such as LEDs with global competitiveness, laser and sensor which further add precision to sophisticated products, ultra precision lens which act as eyes of state-of-the-art instruments, etc. In addition, KOPTI continuously expands the areas of utilization not only in core fields of 4th industrial revolution such as energy/environment, healthcare, self-driving vehicle, ICT convergence, display, etc. but also in defense industry.

The first photonics technology began with passive technology that utilizes natural light, and then developed into technology that creates and utilizes artificial light such as incandescent and fluorescent lamps. Since then, it has developed intelligent technology through semiconductor light sources such as LED, laser, and optical fiber.

In recent years, the photonics convergence industry ecosystem is evolving to secure soundness by adding value to existing industries or create new markets through combining photonics technology with other industries' innovative technologies.

KOPTI will continuously grow the photonics convergence industry and operate an innovation platform to create a technology-based start-up ecosystem for the photonics convergence industry. Through this, we will be reborn photonics convergence hub that leads the market and technology, and will lead the national growth engine by strengthening global competitiveness in the era of 4th industrial revolution.
